Discover Korea Like Never Before
Namsan Seoul Tower, also known as Seoul Tower, decorates Seoul’s skyline as one of the most iconic landmarks in Seoul — far more than just a broadcasting tower.
Once voted as the number one tourist attraction by foreign visitors, this symbol of Seoul serves as a romantic sanctuary for couples worldwide who dream of eternal love. Here, you can experience Seoul’s past, present, and future all in one place.

History of Namsan Seoul Tower – From Broadcasting to Landmark
Construction began in 1969, and Namsan Seoul Tower was completed on July 30, 1975, marking an important milestone in Korean broadcasting history.
Korea’s analog TV broadcasting began in 1961 when KBS-TV first transmitted its signal. Early television broadcasting faced problems such as poor reception and signal interference, making the need for a higher broadcasting tower urgent.
Against this backdrop, three commercial broadcasting companies—Tongyang Broadcasting, Dong-A Broadcasting, and Munhwa Broadcasting (MBC)—jointly obtained permits to build comprehensive broadcasting facilities and tourist observation deck facilities. Until analog broadcasting ended in 2012, Namsan Tower housed transmission antennas for KBS, MBC, and SBS, as well as TBS and Gugak Broadcasting FM transmission antennas. Through the ‘YTN Seoul Tower’ broadcasting tower, 48% of the nation’s viewing population watched their programs.
The Many Names of Namsan Seoul Tower
Namsan Tower has been called by various names throughout different eras.
When it first opened to the public in 1980, its official name and building registry name was Seoul Tower. After broadcasting company YTN acquired it in 2000, it became known as YTN Seoul Tower, which is also its road address name. When it was registered as a Seoul Future Heritage site in 2018, it was called Namsan Seoul Tower.
In 2005, Namsan Tower was renamed ‘N Seoul Tower.’ The ‘N’ represents Namsan, New, and Nature, taken from the first letter of each word.
